The steps to achieve your goals. A blog about goals and how to achieve them. What is the trick to achieving anything? Have you ever wondered, ‘Can you achieve anything?’ With the proper steps, you can.
Motivation, dedication and willpower all depend on the belief that ‘it’ will work. Are motivation and inspiration the same? If motivation can be taught, it is through these three steps. But how do we start? How do you muster the courage? How do weigh up the likelihood of it working?
Short answer – you can’t.
It can sound overwhelming and can create an anxious buzz. If you learn to make this buzz a part of your day, you can use that energy to improve your day.
I am on the verge of setting up my second business, there will be a third, fourth and fifth. I have had the same anxious buzz with both, but I know myself well, and I love this part of the journey.
I have learned to manage the buzz. On both occasions, it was not worry or anxiety that made me do it, it was the desire to build it. I was able to triumph over the worry by problem solving. I overcome the anxiety by focusing on the desire.
Take a deep breath and follow the three steps below to make it.
Not Everything Goes to Plan
On each occasion, things I have wanted have not exactly gone plan. I used the same method for a lifestyle change, making plans to buy a home and even for my weight loss.
And that is okay.
Accepting change and being adaptable should be a part of your skills set. You become a better problem solver, you see the bigger picture and will become quicker at adopting these chances for success.
The only constant was that I was ready to put the time in.
For weight loss, I was fully in. I followed and monitored my food for months before it started working. I still cried, got upset and became demotivated. Nonetheless, I got up the next day and continued.
To change my lifestyle, I had to be fully in. I had a vision of what I wanted, and I was clear on how I wanted to look, so I gave up the comfort of a stable job and then sold a business that did not suit it.
I am still working on this daily, and I will until I become a published author known for advocating writing to support mental health.
To achieve what you want you can make plans, this is recommended. You can create a pro’s and con’s list – this, too is recommended. Create a vision board – also recommended, but these are all with the right mindset.
The Right Mindset
These are all variables that will change.
You have all the power within yourself to make them happen. Especially if you have this 3-step plan.
If there's something you want in life, don't wait around for someone else to give you the reason, time or help to achieve it. You have all the power within yourself to make your dreams come true.
Waiting for someone's approval will only hold you back from achieving great things in life. Following someone else’s method will not help you asses or see what you need.
You have what it takes right now, this very second, to start going after your dreams. All you need is a roadmap, something that will help guide and direct you towards success.
That's where this three-step plan comes in and here is your 3 step plan to achieve anything. Follow these three steps, and you'll be well on your way to success.
The 3-Step Plan
It is all down to you and you only. Every excuse with an action to adapt is going to hinder what you want to achieve.
Step 1: Brain Dump
Identify what you want and why. Knowing your reasons behind your goals is first step to get the ball rolling. This will also be the reminder you need when you are lacking the motivation to get up and do.
Write it.
This can start off as a ‘Brain Dump’. A writing technique that allows you to write free flow. This is where the hidden gems are.
Journal Entry Questions that help jog your mind are:
Why do want this?
What are your initial thoughts that has brought you to this decision?
What will this change your life?
Who will be affected?
Don’t be afraid to let your mind wonder when writing. Expand on the why and how of each reason. You will end up with the what will the most important step of your journey.
If the intention is still there, continue with the next steps. Not every decision will make it your to do list, but it is a great way to step closer to what you want.
Keep this journal entry safe. It will be one to come back too. It will have your reasons, your mission and method hidden in there somewhere.
Step 2: Consider The Elements
This can be anything from financial implications to routine changes. Measuring the implications from now will help you be realistic with how long it will take you, what you will have to give up and what you will need to learn.
Yes, give up.
Yes, learn.
As these elements are situational, you can be taking these steps to make changes to your lifestyle, start a business, organise your work-life balance or it could be to buy something you have always wanted.
Journal Entry Questions to help you decipher the elements are:
What will my steps be?
How will making these changes impact my life?
How long will it take?
When is good time to evaluate my next step?
Make the steps you need to take specific to you. This is only way you will make this happen for you.
Step 3: Taking Action
A lot of us halt when it comes to taking action. Where do you find motivation?
Again, you don’t, it is the feeling of achievement that will encourage you to take a step further in the right direction.
We look for external reasons to begin or we look externally for reasons to prevent us from beginning. We expect the motivation to there when we begin.
The search for motivation and dedication to give us the will power, is a long waiting game. Left to their natural state, our minds are cowards. They will think of the worst, let you believe the worst and it will let you rest in the comfort of what you know. Motivation to work, for anything, will come from battle we have with ourselves.
Be kind to yourself, and don’t be afraid of that internal discussion. A battle between motivation and dedication.
When taking action, there will come a time where you will need to evaluate your steps. Go back to answer in Step 1, re-do a brain dump and re- check your answers with Step 2, and make changes where necessary.
Journal Entry Questions to help Keep Consistent:
When is the best time to add these changes to my schedule?
What do I worry about most?
What is the best way to overcome it?
What is the best way to measure my progress?
Do Consider the Time Frame
Make sure you consider the timeframe for these goals. It something that requires little effort, aim to give yourself a push to get it done sooner. If it is something setting up a business or creating lifestyle changes assume it won’t happen within 3 months. You should evaluate as regularly as your goal needs.
Taking control of what you want, comes from making the decisions for yourself. Help is always needed, but the decision to make the change should always be yours.
