The highest Form of Self- Care

What is the highest form of Self- Care? What does it come down to? How do you actually care for yourself?

The highest form of self-care: A quick reminder as to what you can do to show yourself care.

The highest form of self-care varies from person to person, as it depends on individual needs and preferences. From the breaks you need to the motivation you need to 'get it done'. Even'show yourself compassion', are things we hear and feel we need to look after ourselves.

Though they sound small, they are key. Consistency is key to upholding it, but more importantly understanding what you need to uphold, and what the balance is.

In general, the highest form of self-care is taking a holistic approach to caring for oneself.

This involves addressing physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual needs through various practices such as:

It is important to remember that, though they are closely related, emotional health and mental health are distinct concepts. Emotional health refers to the ability to recognise, express, and manage emotions in a healthy way. Whereas mental health is a broader concept that encompasses a person's overall well-being, including thoughts, emotions, and behaviours.

Emotional health specifically focuses on emotions and their management, while mental health covers a wider range of mental well-being and can be affected by various factors such as genetics, environment, and life experiences.

Physical health, move. That's it.

The last lazy thought you had, do the opposite. If it feels like it will take 'agesssss' to complete, it probably won't and you will feel a lot better getting it out of the way. If there is one time, I would tell you not to journal - it is for this. Don't distract yourself, get on with then go back to journaling, note down your win and carry on.

So, practising good nutrition and exercise habits to take care of your physical health. Basically, move. That's it.

Prioritising sleep to ensure you are getting adequate rest. Enough each day. Standard sleep is advised to get between 7-8 hours a night.

Taking time for yourself to engage in activities that bring you joy and relaxation. Meditate, read, write, draw or spend time in nature. Go for a walk. These small activities bring you back into the present.

I go for a walk on an old railroad, surrounded by trees and branches. It takes me away from the city and it lets me breathe all the pollen that gets my senses burning.

Practise mindfulness and self-awareness to better understand and manage your emotions.

This is where journaling comes in. You relive your moments and memories. Let go of worries or get the chance to reflect on them.

Self-awareness is a great thing. Not just of your behaviours or niggles but it helps lift a cloud of the things you want. What you really, really want. Unveil your vision to your mission.

That was tacky - apologies.

However, clarifying what you want from life, is the way to set your priorities.

One great source that works, if all independent sources do not work, a great way to do this is by seeking support from trusted friends, family members, or mental health. Spend time with loved ones, and find ways to laugh with them, even if things are not the best.

Journal Questions to Help Identify Your Needs;

What measures are you taking to look after your physical movement needs?

How do you rest? Is it working for you?

What activities make you feel creative?

How often do you get to do them?

What was your last social outing like? How was your interaction with others?

How do you feel?

Who are you?

What do you want?

By taking care of yourself in these small ways, you can cultivate a deeper sense of self-awareness and self-love. Journaling is a great way, to start and then maintain it. Small steps are sufficient, once you start it starts snowballing. It grows. Which will ultimately lead to a greater sense of well-being and fulfilment in life.
